Anuk's world

Anuk is a refined artist who, in drawing, painting and writing, excels in the elegance of her craft and intellectual sophistication. The same hand that draws is the one that paints and writes, using art as an instrument of reflection and thought.

It is difficult to demarcate the boundaries between image and text in his series. História Errada is a short story, a graphic story and an exhibition of paintings, and features a plot created by the artist, an ingenious plot that involves intuition and reason.

Anuk's work may remind us to some extent of medieval illumination, which reached its peak in the High Middle Ages. It can also be associated with the narrative poems printed and illustrated with woodcuts in the north-east of Brazil, in which many cordelists combine image and text to tell stories.

In addition, there is a relationship with the Japanese tradition, which often incorporates calligraphy to express philosophical and poetic ideas, a practice deeply rooted in the Zen tradition, in which writing is a direct expression of the artist's spirit. In Anuk, all references mix and dilute, becoming fertiliser for the birth of a complete art that unites visuality and literariness.

The use of different languages in Anuk's work structures a cohesive series with unity, where the narrative produces meaning, whether in each individual work or as a whole. This allows the reader/spectator to connect with the characters and events, as well as with the plasticity expressed in the colours of his paintings. The integration of text and image in Anuk's case results in a multifaceted series that goes beyond simple visual perception to involve the viewer in multiple levels of interpretation. The incorporation of text in her works is a natural extension of her multidisciplinary training and talent, allowing the artist to communicate her ideas effectively.

In her graphic tales, Anuk constructs multiple symbolic meanings. And it is in this sense that her work represents an avant-garde expression. Anuk uses contemporary procedures to create something relevant. His production can be interpreted as a dialogue between established artistic traditions and the critical fortune of the past, resulting in an innovative form of expression based on meticulous research. This ability to mutually illuminate word and image is at the heart of the intrinsic value present in the work of this unique artist.

Sergio Mauricio Manon took part as an artist in the historic exhibition Como vai você, geração 80? Over the years, he has played the roles of curator and artist in various exhibitions, both in private spaces and in renowned institutions such as MAM/RJ, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Historical Museum of the City of Rio de Janeiro. Award-winning author of 10 editions of the fine art publication Santa Art Magazine, he has acted as editor and curator, involving more than 190 prominent artists, thinkers and researchers from Brazil and around the world. The publication has had a significant impact on the development of several artistic careers. He was the author, curator and artist of the inaugural exhibition of the Z42 Arte cultural centre, Máquina do Mundo , which brought together 22 artists from Brazil and various parts of the world. He was also the author, curator and artist of the fine art publication and exhibition Vagalumes 21, which featured 21 important contemporary Brazilian artists. In December 2023, he held the solo show Jardim das Sinapses: enigmas of natural intelligence at the art gallery of a private club in São Paulo. In June 2024, as curator, he inaugurated the solo exhibition "História Errada" at the Portal19 Arte gallery, by the multifaceted artist Anuk. Manon's works are in important collections in Brazil and around the world.
